On my “BFR” flight review with CFI Ryan Baillie, we flew to Byron CA for some touch and go’s (after doing airwork/stalls etc.). On downwind, Ryan “chopped the power” and said you lost the engine. It was an easy power off glide to Runway 30. The winds were light and “down the runway”, which is a bit unusual for Byron. The airport has a reputation for strong crosswinds, making it a popular spot for students and instructors. Byron is about 15 minutes from Concord (KCCR) so it’s an easy flight. The Patriot Jet Team is based here. The runways are well laid out and it is a beautiful airport, Just off the departure end of the runway is the old Byron Hot Springs hotel, which has a very long and interesting history.
